Impatient to develop Hydro-Québec’s major infrastructure and wind projects, CEO Michael Sabia is reshuffling the cards in senior management, according to an internal memo first reported by Radio-Canada and then obtained by the Journal.

“Today we are making organizational adjustments to allow us to become more agile. We want to have a better focus on our priorities, accelerate decision-making and so that you can benefit from clearer roles in your teams,” writes CEO Michael Sabia, in the note dated June 6.

Five new vice-presidents

Michael Sabia announced the appointment of five new vice-presidents:

Michel Charron (former major projects manager at Rio Tinto) is appointed Vice-President – Construction Projects. He will support Claudine Bouchard, current executive vice-president and head of operations and infrastructure.

Dominic Roy becomes Vice-President – Operational Innovation Strategies and Occupational Health and Safety.

France Wong (who worked at the advertising agency BleuBlancRouge and Sid Lee, among others) is named vice-president – Marketing, customer experience and brand image. She will support Dave Réhaume, who was until now responsible for energy planning, and whose title becomes executive vice-president – Commercial activities and head of customer relations.

Joel Thibert (former energy sector analyst for the consulting firm McKinsey) becomes Vice President – Energy Planning and Strategy. He will support the current Executive Vice President – Strategy and Finance, Maxime Aucoin.

Matthew Johnson is appointed Vice President – Wind Development, Research and Transaction Floor.

Regarding this latest appointment, the internal memo underlines the importance of wind power and the fact that Hydro-Québec “will now assume a role as project manager in the development of large-scale wind projects. »

Remember that Hydro-Québec recently unveiled its “wind strategy”, in which the CEO of Hydro-Québec, Michael Sabia, wants to increase the rate of deployment of wind turbines in the province by five. The goal is to have 10,000 megawatts (MW) of additional wind energy by 2035.

Slimming diet for CA

Furthermore, the size of Hydro-Québec’s board of directors will decrease drastically, going from 17 members to between 9 and 13.

The composition of the board of directors is, however, not part of the appointments or organizational adjustments announced yesterday, specifies a spokesperson for Hydro-Québec, but of Bill 69, a responsibility of the Minister of the Economy, ‘Innovation and Energy, Pierre Fitzgibbon.
