In Algeria, the question of opening the air transport sector to private investment is coming back to the forefront. Long addressed by public authorities, this issue which keeps private investors and Algerian travelers in suspense, was addressed once again, this Saturday, November 2, by the Minister of Transport during a meeting in Algiers.

The air transport sector in Algeria is still under a state monopoly with the public company. A situation which is not designed to help the affairs of a sector increasingly criticized by professionals who continue to demand a real opening of the market to private investors.

The low-cost episode, Fly WestAf Algeria, a stillborn project, perfectly illustrates the mess experienced by the private airlines issue in Algeria. But on the government side, things seem to be progressing, according to the Minister of Transport, Mohamed El Habib Zahana. Indeed, Zahana once again addressed the issue of opening air transport to private operators.

Air transport in Algeria: 3 Algerian companies wish to invest in the sector

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of a seminar on civil aviation security, organized by Air Algérie this Saturday in Algiers, Mohamed El Habib Zahana indicated that the services of his ministry are currently studying three files from private operators wishing to invest in the field of air transport, reports the public media Echaab.

These are Algerian companies which have already invested in other areas, according to the minister, who specified that “these files must meet the necessary conditions and obtain sufficient financing”. However, the minister stressed that his services “are working hard to help these operators complete their files and bring their projects to fruition”.

On this occasion, Mohamed El Habib Zahana returned to the authorization recently granted to the private company Nouris Elbahr Ferries to operate in the passenger maritime transport sector alongside the national company Algérie Ferries.
