Tourism, as a catalyst for economic and social progress, is of capital importance in the fight against poverty, social exclusion and territorial disparities. Its potential as a strategic development tool cannot be underestimated, said Naam Miyara, president of the House of Advisors.

The thematic working group responsible for preparing the annual session for evaluating public policies in the tourism sector, organized, this Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Chamber of Advisors, a study day dedicated to the examination of strategies aimed at to strengthen the tourism sector, in the presence of Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, and Ahmed Réda Chami, President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE).

In a speech on this occasion, the President of the House of Advisors, underlined that tourism represents a major engine of economic growth both at the global and national level, noting that it promotes the attraction of investments, the creation of jobs and generation of foreign exchange.

In addition, continued Miyara, the tourism sector plays a critical role in the fight against poverty, social exclusion and regional disparities, while constituting an effective lever for economic and social development, making it an issue strategic.

To fully exploit this potential, it is essential to put in place a renewed and sustainable tourism policy, adapted to global tourism trends as well as the challenges of globalization and possible developments in the world economy.“, he said.

He thus recalled that the Sovereign has paid particular attention to this sector, seeking to make it a powerful engine of development. This orientation arises from the possibilities it offers in terms of employment and foreign currencies, as well as its ability to open up to modernity, thus positioning itself as an economic, cultural and artistic activity promoting intercultural dialogue.

We aspire to an in-depth evaluation of the achievements accomplished, as well as a collective reflection on the realization of the objectives of each strategy. It is also envisaged that the House of Advisors could contribute significantly to supporting the success of these strategies“, Miyara clarified.

In this context, the organization of this study day proved essential for several reasons, explained the manager. First of all, it aims to diagnose the situation of national strategies in the tourism sector. This approach will highlight the assets to be leveraged to strengthen institutional accumulation in this sector.

Likewise, it will identify gaps, inadequacies, as well as constraints and obstacles to the development of the tourism industry. The objective is also to remedy the shortcomings recorded in various programs and initiatives, with a view to correcting them and improving their effectiveness.

Moreover, ” This study day aims to examine the means of strengthening and consolidating an integrated public policy responding to the aspirations of the King and his people. It is about exploiting all the natural, cultural and civilizational qualities of the country to develop tourism. It also involves addressing the obstacles and slowdowns that affect current strategies and reduce the efficiency and prosperity of the tourism sector.“, said the president of the House of Advisors.

And to conclude: “ As a Chamber of Advisors, we are committed to integrating tourism issues and the concerns of professionals, economic operators and all stakeholders in this sector into our work and activities. We will do everything we can to advocate on these issues and mobilize the necessary resources to support the tourism sector. We will also work to find appropriate solutions to all the difficulties, problems and challenges facing this sector. Finally, we will actively contribute to national reflection to build an exemplary Moroccan model in the field of tourism, under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI.“.
