The Legault government is injecting $3.1 million to accelerate the training of future workers in the aerospace field as the needs will be immense in this sector over the coming years.
According to Aéro Montréal, 40,000 positions will need to be filled in this sector over the next decade, a number equivalent to the number of jobs that currently exist in this field in Quebec.
The government is therefore banking on accelerated training to enable students to work while studying.
“What this allows is to allow students to have a salary, which is paid by the company while they are in school,” explains Raymond Nault, teacher at the School of Trades of Montreal aerospace.
“It helps a lot of students to be able to enroll in aerospace,” he adds. “It is also condensed because the work-study program allows students to be on internships.”

Salary is determined by the employer and the government subsidizes up to a maximum of $25,000 per student.
This formula seems to be bearing fruit according to Mario Sabourin, general director of the Quebec Aerospace Sectoral Labor Committee.
“We have an extremely high retention rate,” he says. “It’s upwards of 90%.”

In total, this investment of $3.1 million from the province will enable the training of 100 workers.
Some 19 of them have already been trained, 72 are in training and 20 others will be trained in the fall.
