LA TRIBUNE SUNDAY – Are all incels aggressors or potential terrorists?

AURORE BERGÉ – They share a conception of women and violence that unites them. They consider that men can, by nature, have control over women’s bodies. So there is an intrinsic link with the very idea of violence and predation. This is a dangerous move.

Violence and immigration: the great paradox of rural France

Do masculinists in general and incels in particular represent a threat in France?

They already represent a threat in the speech they make. We observe that the volume of messages is increasing on the various forums, and this anti-feminist ideology is spreading more and more, this is what activists call the “backlash” [contrecoup] post-MeToo. But these ideas are not new. I reopened Eric Zemmour’s book The First Sexin which he writes: “Manliness goes hand in hand with violence, […] man is a predator, a conqueror. »

A backlash? Does this mean that the feminist fight is going backwards?

We observe weariness, a certain fatigue. Companies are the first to tell us about it. We receive more and more alerts that say “It’s okay, we can move on.” It’s a bit insidious, no one is saying that we need to roll back women’s rights, but the discourse that “we’re doing too much” and that it should no longer be a fight is coming back. But if it remains a fight, we must not let up the effort.

How can we prevent certain young men from falling into the incel movement?

We must educate from a very young age, from early childhood. We must infuse society with a culture of respect and equality between women and men. The establishment of empathy courses and the modification of school programs with education in emotional life carried out by Nicole Belloubet go in this direction.
