Sale by the kilo of mystery packages in Albertville: “it’s like surprise bags for adults”

This is the kind of pop-up sale that’s a hit right now! Two tonnes of mystery packages are sold by the kilo until this Saturday evening in the Galerie, Albertville shopping center. “The Sabmou company based in Dole in Jura travels throughout France for these sales per kilo of lost packages and it works very well” explains one of the company’s employees, present during these three days of bellying up in Albertville. These companies buy packages from platforms that have failed to deliver them. After three months, they can resell them, since the anti-waste law of January 2022. These mystery packages are then resold, at a higher price, to customers. “We made the choice to accept the arrival of the company in the shopping center because there is an approach against waste, a desire to give a second life to objects” explains the director of the Albertville shopping center, Alexis Gabreau.

Ephemeral sale at 30 euros per kilo

Since Thursday, in the Albertville shopping center, the posters indicate: “30 euros per kilo“. The packages are very numerous and weigh from 100 grams to 15 kilos. “Customers weigh at checkout, pay and then open their packages, especially at home or in the car“.”We didn’t even have time to install the packages in the morning as people were already there, they are working hard, it’s the surprise, mystery effect, some tell us that it’s like Christmas, they love“.

Many customers who like “the surprise”

You can weigh, turn over, shake but not open” explains Catherine, an Albertville resident. “It’s honestly funny, it passes the time and we’re like kids in front of a surprise bag“.”We know that we’re certainly not going to gain anything, that we’re even going to lose money, that we’re not going to come across a phone and a computer, but we want to try anyway.” adds Pierre. “It’s a bit like gambling, except that you’re sure to walk away with something, even if it’s a little useless thing.“. Some customers only spent around ten euros, others paid more than 250 euros for several mystery packages.

Bertrand and his wife spent a little over 200 euros: “we’re having fun, we’re going to open this quietly at home between us, it’s going to be nice, we’re giving each other a present, it’s almost my birthday too.” “With everything that’s going on in the world, we have need to decompress a little, to open the floodgates, it sells dreams and it feels good” Angelo explains.

Leggings, pockets, hair caps…

Most customers do not dare or do not wish to open their package on site. Some still did it for France Bleu Pays de Savoie. Bruna notably had “black leggings, it’s good, it’s my size” explains the young girl. “We got a video game console pouch and toothpaste in a package” adds a couple, a little disappointed who are impatiently waiting to open the rest at home to see if it was worth spending more than 200 euros.

France Bleu Pays de Savoie also tested this sale by the kilo. We spent 17 euros on two small thin and light Amazon packages. We ended up getting three hair caps and a dozen small bags containing lots and lots of rubber earphone tips. Nothing to despair given the amount spent but we are also not very far from the iPhone or the laptop.

The sale of unclaimed packages, by the kilo, continues until this Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in La Galerie, an Albertville shopping center.
