35.5 million additional subscribers in 2023
From July 1 to September 30, Netflix added 5.1 million subscribers to its service, surpassing analyst estimates, and reaching a total of 282.72 million customers worldwide.
For now, the platform has gained 35.5 million subscribers in 2024, an increase of 15% compared to last year. This positive dynamic is explained in particular by the success of the Standard offer with advertising (€5.99 per month in France), which today represents 50% of new subscriptions.
This plebiscite is also due to the arrival of popular programs in the catalog of the SVOD service during this third quarter: seasons 4 ofUmbrella Academy et Emily in Parisseason 6 of Cobra Kai or the series Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez have all been important loss leaders.
Netflix has not announced an increase in the prices of its subscriptions on American territory, as had been anticipated by experts, the platform will continue to remove its Essential offer (at €8.99 per month) in Brazil and in other countries. other countries, as it did in France last quarter.
Netflix also supported the engagement of its subscribers, and announced the statistic of “two hours per day per paid subscription on average, despite the impact of paid sharing”.
These figures, while impressive in themselves, are interesting to put into perspective in relation to Netflix’s direct rivals. The number of Prime Video subscribers is estimated at 210 million worldwide (up 5%), while Disney+ has been stagnating for several quarters around 150 million customers. The platform with the red N therefore remains the leader of SVOD platforms in the world, by far.
