Economy. SKF announces 27 million euros of investment on its Jura site

The announcement was made this Monday, May 13 during the Choose France summit. The Swedish company SKF had unveiled new investments in France, particularly on its Jura site. Its director, Francis Claude, now announces 27 million euros for the coming years.

The announcement was made this Monday, May 13, during the Choose France summit in Versailles. The Swedish company SKF has unveiled new investments on its various French sites, in particular on its Lons-le-Saunier site, in Jura, specializing in aeronautics.

The site director, Francis Claude, detailed the amount of planned investments to France 3 Franche-Comté this Wednesday. “This will represent 7 million euros for the Perrigny site for this year, and an additional 20 million over three years”explains the person concerned.

An investment which will first be intended for the renovation of the site “which dates from the 70s”, and who must also bring him “towards carbon neutrality” by 2028. Aerospace could also expand, whether with the modification of existing buildings or the purchase of new land.

Investments which should also concern the renovation of the equipment, with more automation, in order “to increase production” to meet the demands of the aeronautics industry. The site should also accommodate new skills, which were not previously present on site. “This will reduce manufacturing times”explains Francis Claude.

An acceleration of the pace which should create new jobs. “We should have needs in technical, operational positions, with controllers, technicians, in middle management, and in engineering, especially mechanical”states the director.

A new dynamic for the site, which had a Job Protection Plan in 2020. Francis Claude describes today 64 jobs lost, and around sixty recruitments since. “For me, this plan was a bad strategic choice”says today the person concerned, who arrived at the head of Jura Aerospace a year ago.

Announcements which also reassure SKF union officials on site. It is always a good thing to have investments on this site. We are coming out of a PSE. If they announce investments, it’s because they believe in its future”, reacts Pascal Loureiro, CGT general secretary of Jura and SKF delegate. Around 320 employees and around fifty temporary workers work there, according to the person concerned. “We find a good level of trust with customers and with the group. The results are good, thanks to the work of the employees. There have been recruitment difficulties, particularly due to lack of space”describes Michel Genot, CFDT union manager for the site. “There is competition from neighboring Switzerland”, adds Pascal Loureiro. “Recruitment is delayed because the orders will arrive.” adds Michel Genot.
