The mobile phone has replaced the book on most Swiss bedside tables. Nearly 60% of them do not fall asleep without their mobile, according to a survey carried out by Ikea. This rate explodes among 18-39 year olds, rising to 79%.
The book is favored by half of Ticino residents, 46% of French-speaking people and 38% of German-speaking people. The survey published on Sunday also reveals unusual habits. Thus, more than a quarter of Ticino residents sleep with a pet. The rest of Switzerland is more reluctant, this rate rising to 9% among German-speaking people.
The survey, conducted between August 19 and 30 among 1,020 people aged 18 to 75, also shows that seven out of ten people want to have better sleep. A study by the Federal Statistical Office revealed last week that a third of the population in Switzerland suffered from sleep disorders in 2022. In 25 years, the proportion of people affected has increased by 5 percentage points.
