The organization will thus take up the torch from Entreprendre Sherbrooke starting next year.

L’Accorderie, a service exchange network, was already collaborating in holding these activities allowing citizens to bring objects that they wish to try to have repaired. The organization counts on a pool of people capable of repairing bicycles or sewing, for example.

“Entreprendre Sherbrooke is the incubator,” explains Catherine Larouche, general director of the Accorderie and Baobab neighborhood café. He had launched the repair cafés mandated by the City. He had a mandate to explore whether an organization in the Sherbrooke territory could take over the organization of repair cafés.”

“Entreprendre Sherbrooke is there to inspire various projects in the community in the hope that there will be promoters afterwards. At L’Accorderie, it seemed natural to us to continue, given that we bring together lots of people who have talents for doing repairs.”

It is thanks to support from the Caisse d’ économique solidaire that the number of editions will be able to increase. “We are going to keep a formula where we walk through different neighborhoods,” specifies Ms. Larouche, adding that L’Accorderie will work to find more financial partners. “These are very popular events,” she emphasizes. Each café allows you to repair around fifty objects according to her.

Over the years, several partners have held repair cafés or collaborated on their success, including the University of Sherbrooke and the Cégep de Sherbrooke.

People who have things to repair can go to the neighborhood Baobab café on October 19, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Another coffee is also planned for November 10 in the afternoon at the same time, at the Bureau Park pavilion.

Furthermore, L’Accorderie must now serve the Granit region, indicates Catherine Larouche, adding that there will be a service point in Lac-Mégantic supported by L’Accorderie.

“We have 950 members in Sherbrooke and 120 members in the Granite sector.”

“We are in the process of changing our name. We will eventually be called L’Accorderie des monts et des lacs.”
