The energy trade balance deficit (taking into account the royalty on exported Algerian gas) recorded, at the end of August 2024, an increase of 28% compared to the same period of last year, at 7.8 billion dinars, according to the report on the energy situation for August 2024, published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.

Exports of energy products recorded an increase in value of 3% accompanied by an increase in imports in value of 21%.

Trade in the energy sector is very sensitive to three factors, namely the quantities exchanged, the dollar/dinar exchange rate ($/DT) and the price of Brent, the reference quality on which the prices of Brent are indexed. crude imported and exported as well as petroleum products.

Indeed, during the first 8 months of 2024, the average price of Brent increased by 4% although it recorded, during the month of August 2024, a drop of $5/bbl compared to the same period. of the year 2023. Note that bbl is an American capacity measurement worth approximately 158.98 liters.

Still according to the observatory, the Tunisian dinar recorded, at the end of August 2024, a slight deterioration of 1% against the American dollar, the main currency of exchange for energy products compared to the same period last year.
