The budget provides, on the other hand, for the financing of 2,000 additional AESH (supporters of students with disabilities).

In the detail of fewer teaching positions, the first public level (nursery and elementary) is the most affected with a drop of 3,155 positions. Public secondary education (middle and high schools) lost 180 positions, private primary education 660 and finally private secondary education 40, according to the Ministry of Education.
Guislaine David, the general secretary of FSU-Snuipp, the first nursery and elementary union, immediately denounced a “scuttle of public schools” on the social network X. “But where is the priority given to school? ”, she asked.
Last year, the 2024 finance bill provided for the elimination of 2,500 teaching positions, also justified by the demographic drop in the number of students, estimated by the ministry at 83,000 fewer students at the start of the 2024 school year. But to allow the implementation of the so-called “shock of knowledge” reform, Gabriel Attal decided to cancel the elimination of the 484 positions planned in secondary education and to create 574.
“The organization of ignorance”
These additional teaching positions were to make it possible to prioritize the establishment of level groups in French and mathematics. Previously, the state had cut 1,500 positions in 2023, nearly 2,000 positions in 2022.
The National Education budget for 2025 amounts to 63 billion euros, generally stable compared to 2024. The ministry assures that “school will remain the nation’s first budget”.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon deplored on X “the 4,000 fewer positions in Education”. “After having spread misery, here is the organization of ignorance,” believes the leader of La France insoumise.
