Work on the SNCF Perpignan-Villefranche line: train traffic disrupted from this Monday

The SNCF announces a reduction in the number of services, linked to work scheduled from October 7 to 25, 2024, on the -Villefranche line. The axis was already cut between Ille and Villefranche since the derailment of a train in Eus on July 24. Users are starting to lose patience.

It has already been more than two months since the railway line between Ille-sur-Têt and Villefranche-de-Conflent has been cut at Eus. For the record, on July 24, a regional express train (TER) was derailed in the territory of the said municipality after hitting a landslide. He had collided with the pier of a bridge in the process. The problem linked to the weakening of the structure in question has obviously not yet been resolved. Traffic on the section has still not resumed.

Furthermore, in a recent publication announcing an adaptation of traffic between Perpignan and Villefranche linked to work on the line, the SNCF explains: “Train circulation is interrupted between Villefranche-Vernet-les-Bains and Ille-sur-Têt for several weeks due to a mudslide which led to the derailment of a train on Wednesday July 24. In addition, work is being carried out on this same line from October 7 to 25.”

The list of services maintained during the period is available on the TER SNCF website. The fact remains that two months after the incident which led to the closure of the line between Ille-sur-Têt and Villefranche, users are starting to find the time long. For them, the announcement of this new reduction in services is the last straw added to an already well-filled vase. Even if buses were put in place as replacements on the impacted section.

According to our information, a meeting should be held at the sub-prefecture this Monday to take stock of the situation.
