Many car accidents involving elderly people at the wheel have been recorded. Between collisions, hit-and-runs and phantom drivers, the problems are numerous. In Belgium, there is no age limit for driving. The license remains valid even if you are a hundred years old, it is up to the driver to assess their driving abilities.

My niece tells me I’m the queen of the asphalt and that I drive like crazy

Éveline recently lost control of her car which was completely destroyed. After this mishap, his loved ones decided to offer him a driving course. “They chipped in so I could learn to drive more wisely. My niece tells me I’m the queen of the asphalt and that I drive like crazy, but I don’t feel that way“, she says.

The main goal of this training? Avoid accidents. Several exercises are organized to test the reflexes and habits of senior drivers.

Accompanied by the instructor, Évelyne launches into an exercise that seems simple, but is in reality complex: braking with obstacle avoidance.

I knocked over all the cones“, she admits. “Where is the problem? You didn’t look to the left“, the instructor explains to him.

Brake, that’s what I do, count on me! (…) I have bad reflexes, I admit,” she admits. “But everyone has bad reflexes, it has nothing to do with age“.
