May bridges: public holidays penalize Drôme businesses

With its four public holidays, May is the month when we work the least. But this year, all these non-working days fall in the middle of the week. A boon for employees who can afford to take one or two days off and take advantage of long breaks. On the other hand, for self-employed workers, this configuration is not very good news. “There will be fewer crowds, people will leave, it will penalize us for the whole week. I think it could have an impact on the figure for the month,” explains Cindy from the Mc Coiffure salon in Romans-sur-Isère. “Before, we opened on public holidays but today it’s no longer worth it, consumption habits have changed. On the other hand, we work well the next day!” says Jessica, manager of the Esprit d’Havana boutique.

Delays on construction sites for the construction sector

For Hervé Blèze, president of CAPEB de la Drôme, the month of May is synonymous with loss, time and money. “Our projects are going to be delayed, it is restrictive for us and the client. Extension bridges are days when we cannot invoice and the charges are the same. At the end of the month, it can represent between 5,000 and 10,000 euros loss for a small business.” According to this sector professional, the delay during public holidays will have repercussions until June.
