Cases involving teachers and students regularly make the headlines in American newspapers, but this one particularly shocked the United States. Madison Bergmann, 24, a teacher in Wisconsin, is accused of having had a relationship with an 11-year-old boy, reports the New York Post.
The alleged abuse came to light when the student’s mother overheard her son talking to the teacher on the phone, reported CBS News Minnesota. The victim’s parents also allegedly found ambiguous text messages in their son’s phone.
In the teacher’s bag, the police found handwritten notes which allegedly proved that the teacher had kissed the child on numerous occasions. In one of the letters, she wrote: “I know we have a special relationship and I love you more than anyone in the world.” And added: “But I have to be the adult here and stop.”
Prosecuted for first degree sexual assault on a minor, she was released on bail of $25,000. She was suspended from her duties, with a ban on contacting students or parents.
Madison Bergmann was set to get married next summer to her longtime boyfriend.
