Nothing is going well at CHSLD La Prairie: an investigator dispatched by the ministry

The office of the Minister of Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, has mandated an investigator from the ministry to shed light on the allegations of mistreatment at the CHSLD La Prairie. The situation was revealed in the report by Isabelle Maréchal Monday.

An 86-year-old woman, named Gemma Dufour, now deceased, was allegedly brutalized by a CHSLD employee. The latter also allegedly attacked other residents several months ago.

Minister Bélanger says she takes the situation very seriously.

“There was a request for an internal investigation by the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest. I am not satisfied with the results of this investigation and I asked the Ministry of Health and Social Services to go into the field with the inspection team, in order to submit a report to me on the situation,” said she commented today.

Let us also remember that Mélanie Rocco, employee of CHSLD La Prairie, was suspended for two weeks without pay on September 25. She denounced the establishment’s inaction in multiple emails sent to ministers Christian Dubé and Sonia Bélanger.

This beneficiary attendant, speaking on behalf of a group of employees, also denounced the slowness of the system in several files concerning the well-being of residents.

Joëlle Lavoie-Vigeant, national representative of the Alliance of Professional and Technical Personnel in Health and Social Services (APTS) in Montérégie, mentioned at Isabelle Maréchal’s microphone that employees are obliged to denounce.

According to Ms. Lavoie-Vigeant, this situation “contributes to silence in the health network. »

A criminal investigation transferred to the DPCP

The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) must decide whether he will file charges in another case involving the CHSLD La Pairie.

On June 20, four employees contacted the Régie intermunicipale de Roussillon to denounce acts of violence by an employee towards residents. They also denounced the inaction of several managers and executives on issues, including the deficiency in care of residents combined with the constant lack of staff on the floor.

The Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Authority confirms that it has carried out an investigation and transferred the file to the DPCP for evaluation.

QUB spoke to the four people who made the complaint and read their statements.

According to our information, the criminal investigation would target a beneficiary attendant at the establishment.

However, he has no longer been employed by the CHSLD La Prairie for several weeks. However, he would still work in the network after being relocated.

The union and several CHSLD employees affirm that the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest was aware of the problematic situation well before the complaint made to the police.

The CISSS told QUB that “the establishment had no doubts about the quality of care and services offered at the CHSLD La Prairie before the report last June which led to the request for an external investigation. »

The report should be delivered shortly.
