Even if teleworking remains a particularly popular option for workers in Quebec, two years after the lifting of all restrictions linked to COVID-19, more and more employers want a return to the office.

At least that’s what the Léger survey data published Wednesday on behalf of Concilivi reveals.

We learn that the proportion of employees who can telework in hybrid mode remains stable at around six in ten (58%).

Nearly half of these people (46%), however, indicated that over the past year, their employer has tightened its teleworking policy to ensure greater presence in the office.

For 22% of them, they are required to work more days in person, while for 24%, working in the office is desired, without being strictly obligatory.

More efficient?

The majority of respondents (61%) believe they perform better when they work remotely.

“Teleworking allows greater flexibility in the management of tasks and schedules and this is reflected in the feeling of performance at work,” analyzed Professor Diane-Gabrielle Tremblay, who collaborated in carrying out the study. .

The hybrid formula is “strongly appreciated” by 85% of respondents, and 79% are of the opinion that it facilitates family-work balance. For their part, employers say that creativity and performance are better in the office than remotely.

Disadvantages

The people interviewed admit that teleworking also comes with disadvantages. For example, 52% say it makes it harder to disconnect. Also, 45% believe that teleworking has the effect of excluding them from certain decision-making networks and 39% think that it has a negative effect on their career due to less visibility.

The survey was conducted among 3,078 Quebec workers who are parents of children under 18 and/or caregivers, between May 17 and June 2, 2024.
