One by one, the guardrails surrounding Sam Altman are falling. The director of OpenAI, publisher in particular of ChatGPT, has more and more power at the head of the world number one in generative artificial intelligence. In recent hours, several obstacles to the even faster development of the Californian start-up have been removed. Enough to hope, or fear, depending on your point of view, dazzling progress from OpenAI.

First there was the surprise departure of Mira Murati, announced during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Technical manager of OpenAI, active within the company for more than six years, she was seen as the company’s number two. She had even been its director, for four short days, in November 2023, when the board of directors had ejected Sam Altman from management, before quickly reinstating him.
