It’s a new fuel that could soon appear at the pump. According to information from RTL, a fully renewable version of Superethanol E85 is in the works. E85 is currently the cheapest fuel, at 90 cents per liter on average. It is composed mainly of biomass and could soon be completely so in a new version that we have been able to test.
Behind the wheel, nothing changes, same feeling, same consumption. However, this fuel contains up to 85% ethanol from cereals or beets, as Nicolas Kurtsoglou, fuel manager at Bioethanol France, explains: “We remove the part of classic fossil gasoline in E85 and we remove it. replaces with 15% renewable fuel It can be made from used cooking oil and. at the end, we have an E85 which comes 100% from biomass.”
Advantage of this product: these low emissions. “This reduces CO2 emissions by 70% compared to gasoline.and from 90% to 98%, the emissions of nitrogen oxide and particles in the overall footprint, that is to say, including the production of fuel and its consumption”, specifies Nicolas Kurtsoglou. An ecological advantage therefore, but also economical for a price which should be attractive around 1 euro per liter.
