Presented last June, the new BMW 1 Series is already arriving in dealerships for the start of the 2024 school year! In the Hess BMW Mulhouse dealership, only one model was presented, and we took the opportunity to discover this new product in detail.
A renewed design
BMW has carried out a major restyling for the 1 Series. Externally, the front end has been completely reworked. The new grille is lower, and is somewhat reminiscent of that of the 2 Series Gran Coupé. No chrome here, but glossy black elements that go well with the BMW Individual Storm Bay metallic color. The rear has also evolved with thin notches in the lights, and a reworked rear bumper with a sort of diffuser on this M Sport version. On the other hand, no visible exhaust pipe…
From the side, we find the same elements but the designers have added a small cover behind the quarterlights which highlights a large “1”. A nice little novelty.
Inside, the 1 Series receives a new dashboard, completely revisited. Everything changes, with the adoption of the famous horizontal screen as on the rest of the range, and also a completely redesigned ergonomics. Part of the air conditioning controls for example, are now relegated to the bottom of the screen.
The previous version already benefited from illuminated decorative inserts, a principle that has been renewed on this version. In terms of finish, BMW has used new materials for its dashboard. The plastics are different from the old one, but do not improve the perceived quality which remains a notch below the 3 Series, but also the X1.
Prices are rising sharply
The new BMW 120 is now the entry-level petrol model, after the disappearance of the 116i and 118i. This new 120 retains a 1.5 L 3-cylinder like the 118i, but with a significantly higher power of 170 hp. The brand has also taken the opportunity to review the prices, which start at 38,900 euros. But this is only the first price of this compact….
For a 1 Series M Sport with great options like this, the price has become much more substantial since it exceeds 57,000 euros!
The price goes from 38,900 euros to 42,350 euros when you choose the most expensive finish, M Sport. Then it is the options that will increase the price by 15,000 euros, the price of a city car.
