Nearly two months after the resignation of Gabriel Attal and his government, Emmanuel Macron has finally chosen a successor for him at Matignon. On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Michel Barnier (LR) as Prime Minister. The latter gave his first interview as head of government to Anne-Claire Coudray on Friday, September 6, 2024, on TF1’s 8 p.m. news. “The government is responsible, there is independence. The government will govern and I will do so in good understanding with the President of the Republic naturally”declared the new Prime Minister. Michel Barnier also specified that he had “nothing in common or not much in common with theses or ideologies” of the National Rally.
