The Librairie l'Échappée Livre will host the designer Sébastien Goethals on Friday January 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a signing session. Living in Rabastens for several years, he works on his scripts with France Inter journalist and writer Philippe Colin. The first comic book by the Goethals/Colin tandem was a huge success in 2018, “The Journey of Marcel Grob”. Prix Historia de la BD, the story tells the destiny of a “despite us”, a young Alsatian enlisted in the Waffen SS in 1944. The second, in 2020, was just as fascinating. “The Homeland of the Werner Brothers” told the story of two German brothers, born at the end of the war, who each become physiotherapists in two opposing football teams, one the team of the FRG (Western Germany). west), the other from the GDR (East Germany). A fraternity resistant to geopolitical tensions. The last comic, which is the one that Sébastien Goethals will come to sign, was published in the fall. It is called “L'Escamoteur” and tells the story of the creation of the small far-left group Action Directe in Toulouse in the 1970s. We follow Jean-Marc Rouillan and his cronies in a headlong flight towards ever more violence and radicalism. We understand why this French armed struggle group, comparable to the German RAF or the Red Brigades, shook general intelligence, political power and the whole of France until the 1980s.
The two authors depict themselves, parallel to the drawn story, making progress on their investigation. A fascinating work.
