It is a request that comes up regularly through discussions with the inhabitants of Saint-Avé (Morbihan) and to which the municipality has just responded favorably, with the installation of three book boxes on its territory.

Located on the playground in the ponds district, on the old Beau Soleil playground, and soon – spring 2025 – in the Presbytère garden, these metal boxes were acquired from the Lire et Sourires foundation”,explains Florence Mauduit, the director of the media library.

An acquisition that goes in the direction that the City wishes to give to this project. It is a foundation which acts to promote access to books and reading, specifies Yannick Cadiou, assistant for culture. This is a goal that is dear to us.

“They will have the role of nightlights”

Decorated by Medhi Lamour, painter from the town and by young people from the Youth Centre, the book boxes, installed in places of passage, will be managed by Isabelle Bigotte and Raymonde Le Gal. They had proposed the installation of book boxes during the last edition of the participatory budget. We did not retain the idea because we were already carrying out the project with which we associated them. They will have the role of nightlights,”explains Christelle Lanoë, director of communications and citizen participation.

The two women will thus ensure the proper use of the boxes, ensuring in particular that no work of a proselytizing, sectarian or pornographic nature is deposited. They are also responsible for alerting the city in the event of technical needs or damage,” concludes Christelle Lanoë.
