What is the French title of the new book Hunger Games ?
While the original title was communicated last June, at the same time as the American publication date, PKJ editions have just revealed the title of the novel in French version. This new story, placed under the sign of atonement, will therefore be entitled Sunrise over the Harvest. A literal translation of the original work, presented under the name Sunrise on the Reaping.
What will the story be about?
Like the book The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird, Sunrise over the Harvest is a prequel to the mother saga, which recounts the adventures of Katniss Everdeen during the 74th Hunger Games. This time, the story will take place during the 50th edition of the famous murderous gameseither 40 years after the novel centered on Coriolanus Snow et 24 years before those about the young rebel from District 12. The opportunity to learn more about a character who is already very popular with fans: Haymitch Abernathy.
If we already know that the latter, who will later become the mentor of Katniss and Peeta, won the Hunger Games, the whole interest of this new novel will be to know how he achieved this feat, but also to discover what happened to him during and after the terrible manhunt to make him what he became.
The 50th Hunger Games are also very special, since it is about Atonement Games. An even more horrible and bloody version, which sees that year the number of tributes double. In district 12, Haymitch then hears with horror his name being drawn and finds himself sent into the arena with a friend he considers like a sister, a compulsive gambler and the most pretentious girl in town.
-Even before the tests begin, he understands that everything is rigged and that he has absolutely no chance of getting out alive. This will nevertheless awaken a fire of rage and determination in him, pushing him to fight for his survival, for the girl he loves, but also for the inhabitants of Panem.
When will the novel be available in bookstores?
Published in France by PKJ, Sunrise over the Harvest will be available from March 20, 2025 (now for pre-order), just two days after the American release. Enough to relieve French fans who were afraid of having to wait several months to obtain the translation.
A new movie Hunger Games already in development
Although this new novel Hunger Games has not yet been released, a film based on Sunrise over the Harvest has already been announced and is currently in development at Lionsgate. In the production, we will find Francis Lawrence, who worked on the last three parts of the saga as well as on The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbirdwhile the screenplay will be adapted and written by Michael Arndt, also an expert in the universe.
For the moment, the casting has not been revealed, but this should not be long, the feature film being expected in theaters in November 2026.
