Guyana: a high school student threatens his teacher with death if he does not get a good grade

A very serious event occurred this Wednesday, January 15, 2025 within the confines of the Raymond-Tarcy high school in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. A CAP student enrolled in this establishment allegedly threatened a teacher three times to shoot him in the head if he did not obtain a good grade. According to SE-UNSA Guyana, which published a press release in the evening, the student mimed the scene in class in front of his classmates, repeating his threatening remarks three times.

The professor concerned filed a complaint. The student was placed under precautionary measures while awaiting his disciplinary council. A case which deeply shocked the teaching team and the students present in class at the time of the incident. In its press release, SE-UNSA Guyana denounces an “extremely serious event”, recalling that it is part of a general climate of repeated violence.
