- Joël Dicker will publish his first children’s novel on March 4.
- This book is intended to be intergenerational.
- The plot revolves around a criminal flood at a school.
- The goal is to bring together readers of all generations.
One year later “A wild animal”Joël Dicker will return to bookstores in March with “The very catastrophic visit to the zoo”. The title, which contrasts with that of the previous texts, sets the tone: the Genevan author is launching into children’s literature. “I am leaving the thriller trail to explore a new facet of my writing, and offer a multi-generational book which is aimed at both young and old readers,” he announces in a press release.
There are many authors for adults who venture into the terrain of children’s novels. In France, we can cite among others Marc Lévy, Michel Bussi and David Foenkinos. In French-speaking Switzerland, the Swiss Frissons collection includes various authors, including texts by Nicolas Feuz, whose novels for adults are now published by Rosie&Wolfe, the house of Joël Dicker. Other authors have written for young people in styles other than detective novels and thrillers, such as Elisa Shua Dusapin with “The Hummingbird”. Latest to date, Joseph Incardona released before Christmas “Foal who wanted to be a zebra”a very beautiful initiatory tale which contrasts with his production for adults.
The new Dicker will, on the other hand, follow its author’s appetite for suspense, since the plot will once again revolve around a mystery: a visit to a zoo on Christmas Eve which goes wrong, and which we will gradually discover little mysterious underside. “My goal is to create a moment of sharing between parents, children and grandparents, a bit like those Sunday evening films that brought us all together in front of the television. Those who liked my previous novels will find my touch again, even if this time it is not about a murder.
The 250-page adventure will be published on March 4 by Rosie&Wolfe. A week before, it will be possible to discover “A Wild Animal” in paperback. The novel, published on February 27, 2024, is the only French-language title in the top 3 among the best-selling Books in French last year. With 425,000 copies, the Genevan’s thriller is behind the pocket editions “The Housekeeper” by Freida McFadden and “The Midwife of Auschwitz” by Anna Stuart.
