Available since January 1 from Editions Gallimard, the writer's new novel deals with influence and its mechanisms.
It is a particularly anticipated book for the literary season in January 2025, notably with those by Vanessa Springora, Philippe Besson and Pierre Lemaitre. After causing a sensation with Girl (Gallimard) in 2020, Camille Laurens is back in bookstores with Your Promise (Gallimard), which explores the pain resulting from a relationship under influence, while dissecting its mechanisms and its consequences.
In her new novel, she follows the character of Claire Lancel, who finds herself in court against her companion. Constructing her story like a thriller, the author returns to the relationship that led to this outcome and deals with lying, manipulation, lack of empathy and narcissism.
A poignant story that echoes current events, while allowing Camille Laurens to once again develop themes linked to relationships and love.
The press conquered?
Since the start of the school year, the press already seems to be particularly enthusiastic about Camille Laurens' new book. For Paris Match, Your promise is a “ roman virtues […] on the impasses of mad love ». The New Obs speaks for his part of a “ work in several layers, at once risky, seductive and embarrassing ».
Same story on the side of L’Expressfor whom “ Camille Laurens brilliantly describes the tricks of control ”, playing “ maliciously concordances between her heroine and her own story ».

Because it is Your promise is not autobiographical, the book necessarily draws on experiences lived by the author, and the memory of the lawsuit brought by the writer's ex-husband following the release of the book Love, novel — considering a violation of their private life — in 2003 inevitably resonates. Camille Laurens thus uses a universal theme in her bibliography, and through it, in turn offers a universal and timeless work with Your promise.
