Pascal Godbillon :
The first half of 2025 will start with the publication of the new novel by Stéphane Przybylski.
A novel which could hardly be more topical since it plunges us into the Middle East, while diverse and varied armed troops are tearing each other apart for the possession of an ancient manuscript which could well change the world. And to prevent them from carrying out their aims, an archaeologist: Rachel Avital, embarked, despite herself, on an adventure that is beyond her control. We know the storytelling talent of Stéphane Przybylski and here he tries his hand at a spy thriller with success.
It’s a fairly short, impactful novel and… we don’t forget the Imagination, don’t worry!
A little later, another regular from the collection will finally make its return: Adrian Tchaikovsky and the long-awaited sequel to In the web of time et In the depths of time.
And we will dive this time In the cradle of time (Children of Memoryalways translated by Henry-Luc Planchat). We will obviously find all the ingredients that made the success of the first two works in the series (Hugo prize, by the way…) and the author adds yet another new dimension to his construction (if it is possible!) SF.
Brief, sense of wonder in anticipation.
And since we are talking about sense of wonderwhat to say about Among other universes (In Universestranslated by Gilles Goullet) ?
This is one of the best American novels I’ve read in a long time. It’s SF, or not; it’s very autofictional, or not; it’s extremely moving, or… yes, it’s very moving. But it all depends on which universe you belong to, I guess. The author, Emet Northhas fun with the interpretation of the multiple worlds of quantum mechanics to give us the story of Raffi, astrophysicist (or not) passionate about philosophy (or not) who tries so hard to give meaning to his life… or not. It’s a little gem from my point of view.
Well, OK, I’m not super objective. But still. Or not.
And we will have the opportunity to talk about the second half a little later in the year, I hope!
