First (positive!) review of the book, Montreal book fair, and return to the 2nd launch

So let’s come to this review and its final verdict, which I quote from the outset:

“To read or not to read? Read, but only if you are ready to devote the necessary time to it, time which I did not have, especially after the conference the weekend before last and the reactions it provoked! That said, this book is a mine of information. Even if it has 576 large pages and relatively small characters, the most theoretical contents are not developed there, because the author refers us in these cases to texts contained in his site or in his blog (which is part of the site). I rarely consulted them, but I regret it! Despite certain parts that one may find austere (in any case rigorous!), its content is simply fascinating, both in its theoretical parts and when the author and his companion go a little off topic. »

Jodoin has also done a remarkable job of summarizing each of the 12 meetings in the book (one or two substantial paragraphs per meeting) which could be very useful to people curious to get into the content of the work, as I am doing. in the prologue to convince Yvon to embark on the adventure.

“This prologue sets the table well for the future, because if it convinced Yvon to participate, it gave me the desire to witness it! »

And I must say that it was very pleasant for me to find, for each meeting summarized by Mario Jodoin, both the essentials of what we discussed there with Yvon, but also what a left-wing economist took away from it and brings it out! And it seems like there are quite a few things that might be of interest to a person concerned about the state of the world like him. In addition, he had the delicacy, in summarizing the epilogue, to keep the suspense that builds up during the story of our meetings:

“Then the book ends with a twist for people who haven’t already guessed it or who don’t already know it…”

As someone said in a comment on the review this morning (and admire the subtle transition to the next topic…), “I’m going to talk to Mrs. Claus about it. »…

Ecosociety so put on my big face alone to announce the times when I will be at their kiosk at the Montreal book fair, Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning to sign the book (see the times in the image at the top of this post) and especially to discuss with people “Our brain at all levels. From the Big Bang to social consciousness » launched on October 3. As always, Yvon is not too keen on this kind of “worldliness”, but I admit that personally I find it fun to talk about this great adventure (ours, which is also yours…) with real human brains at last. , after the last 4 years of writing. Not to be outdone by my co-author, however, I put below the original photo which can be found on the page Biographies of book websitephoto taken by François Bastien during the chess game we played at the very end of our last meeting (for people who have already finished the book…).

And still in the photographic memories, here is one taken last Wednesday by Jorge Martinez during the “2e launch of the book at the Oubliettes café, the place where our 1era meeting in the book, the one titled Socrates’ “know thyself” in the age of cognitive sciences.

The period of exchange with the public was rich and varied, and you can find the pdf of the Power Point of the book presentation on the page of the UPop Montréal website associated with this special activity. I left the notes with the images, which makes it an interesting document to get an overview of the hour-long book from its circular summary. The presentation was also recorded (in audio only) and will probably be available sometime during the holidays from the same page of the UPop website.
