This practice, not only illegal, but also contrary to Wave’s principles of transparency, deserves a firm response from the company.

When you use the Wave app to pay for your purchases, transaction fees are already included in the amount displayed at checkout. The merchant therefore does not have the right to add additional cash costs. This unjustified manipulation damages Wave’s image and discourages many customers from using this means of payment, although designed to simplify exchanges.

Wave must take strong measures to sanction these abuses. The company should increase awareness among merchants, reiterate the rules for using its merchant code, and apply sanctions up to the suspension or deletion of the merchant codes of offenders. Additionally, users should be encouraged to report these practices directly to Wave through available complaint channels.

Together, merchants and consumers must help maintain a healthy, transparent and rule-compliant payment ecosystem. The fight against these abuses is essential to preserve customer trust and guarantee the success of the digital transition in Senegal.
