Four students in the final year of their Modern Literature degree held the book exchange stand on Tuesday November 19, 2024, at the Faculty of Letters, Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences in Lorient (Morbihan).
To save the books from the pestle, the university library offered several works to the Incipit association. They were supplemented by donations from students, professors and free listeners.
The goal? “Making literature and books in general accessible”, explains Emma, the association’s treasurer.
“It is possible to find paperback books from 50 cents, nothing is sold above €2 here. It’s a perfect time, especially to collect textbooks before exams,” adds Rémi, the president.
Rémi, Emma, secretary Axelle, as well as communications officers Claire and Shi-Lan took over, in May 2024, the association Incipit, from the Latin meaning the beginning of a book. It has around fifty members who were able to have a promotion on books, “there are students in history, science, languages and even masters”, Rémi lists.
A second book fair in May
It is a success for the literary people who took turns going to class all day and who plan to enter the world of publishing, culture or even teaching after their studies.
“It’s a moment of sharing, it allows us to discuss, to bring the association into existence and to keep the license alive,” says Axelle .
A second book fair will take place in March 2025, also a strategic date before the second semester exams.
Other projects are coming for the Incipit association, including a writing competition during the university's Festival of Arts and Culture in spring 2025.
