Independent booksellers, united under the banner of the umbrella association Livresuisse, feared it. And it happened: The Competition Commission (Comco) requires the French publishing group Madrigall, notably owner of Gallimard and Flammarion editions, to allow Payot direct supply under French conditions. Highly awaited, the decision fell Thursday morning.
This is because the group demanded much higher prices from Payot than those usually charged in France. The Swiss bookstore chain therefore took advantage of a legislative change introducing the notion of abuse of relative position, to file a complaint in 2022 with Comco.
