“Today, with around fifty registered, our number of members is relatively stable. » This was indicated by Hélène Charles, president of the Friends of Books and Culture of Valdivienne library during the general meeting held on Monday October 14, 2024 in its premises (1).
A dozen
of new books by bestselling authors purchased each year
The library offers nearly 3,500 works, including 3,000 novels. “There is practically something for every reading desire, from children to adultssays Hélène Charles. To expand our collection, we purchase a dozen new books from bestselling authors each year. And every month, we benefit from a shuttle which brings us our orders placed with the Poitiers library, including the supply of wide vision books, ideal for vision problems. »
Furthermore, twice a year, Friends of the Book are entitled to the passage of the bookmobile, which allows, again, to renew the works.
The Friends of the Book association is also a partner of the Lire en Vienne site, « ain order to provide our readers with free access to all the services offered on the site, such as watching films, downloading ebooks, reading the press, following online training or even listening to music.specifies Hélène Charles.
Better integrate into school
with the library
In terms of entertainment, apart from its participation in the next Christmas market of the housing center and the next Christmas snack of the Copains d'Abord association, the library will not repeat any activities this year. “This is due to the lack of adaptation of our premises and participants, which has also earned us an E rating from the Vienne and Gartempe community as part of its report concerning the libraries in the sector, explains Ms. Charles. To try to improve this situation, the mayor of the town asked the youth-education commission to study the possibility of better integrating the school with our library. »
Library of Friends of the Book open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Membership: €10 per year.
