“I had a warm and positive conversation with President Donald Trump a short time ago,” Albanese, head of the Labor Party, to journalists.

“The discussions (…) focused on the friendship between our two nations, which is so important,” he added.

“He was fully aware of the (of the vote) and expressed the desire to continue working with me in the future,” added the head of government, whose country is a historic ally of the States.

The conversation also focused on the defense alliance between Canberra and Washington, as well as the establishment of American customs duties, according to Mr. Albanese.

Anchored on the left, outgoing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese won the Australian legislative elections against the opposition led by the conservative Peter Dutton, often compared to Donald Trump.

According to analysts, the “Trump” effect is what may partly explain the of the Labor Party of Albanese, with the implementation of the customs surcharge of 10 % against Australian goods imported in the United States and the disturbances that this has caused on the markets.
