“I tell my truth”: the alleged victim had to defend herself from having “invented a story”, at the trial of the ex-players of team Canada Junior

London | Taloned with questions on the fourth day of his counter-examination, the alleged victim of the five ex-homes of the 2018 Canada Junior Team had to defend himself from having “invented a story” to better convince the members of the jury.

“I tell my truth, my story,” launched the young woman in a firm tone, the air annoyed.

The latter is questioned since Wednesday morning by M^e Megan Savard, who represents Carter Hart, one of the five accused. In a tense exchange, the defense lawyer pressed her questions, namely under what circumstances she had come to cry in the hotel room.

“In your mind, there is no difference between asserting the jury [qu’ils ont dit]: “Don’t go” and “don’t let her go, she cries,” asked me. The version you said to the police in 2018 seems much less criminal than what you say to the jury today. ”

“I have aged and I am more mature, I have a better understanding of what happened to me now,” replied the one that can only be identified by the initials EM, due to a prohibition of publication on his identity.

Invent a story

The alleged victim was then accused by the defense lawyer “to invent a story” about the words exchanged.

“I will suggest that that at several occasions, you take an element, something that has happened, you deform the words so that it sounds much worse,” said M^e Savard.

“I did not know how to communicate every detail precisely, I was just trying to get everything out,” said the young woman.

The defense lawyer then pointed out to her that she was completing a bachelor’s degree at university, adding that she should have had a certain ease of expressing himself.

“After something like that, it’s really difficult to communicate what had just happened. Yes, I have a good education, but I was traumatized, ”said EM, looks a little outraged.

The answer did not seem to satisfy M^e Savard, who reproached him for “wanting to make the jury accept that it is more likely that a crime has been committed here”.

“I tell my truth, my story and how I remember everything that happened. I do not try to make it appear even worse than it is. It’s that I can’t say a word for a word what was said, ”she replied.

Horror night

She was 20 years old at the time of the facts alleged against the five accused, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Alex formenton and Cal Fote. The event would have occurred in London, in June 2018, on the occasion of the triumph a few months earlier from the Canadian team in the world championship.

EM had met the hockey players in a bar, where she had drank more than a dozen alcoholic consumption, including several shooters.

She would then have met McLeod, and finally found herself in her hotel room at the London Delta.

A consensual sexual intercourse took place between the two, but it is just after the young woman’s night would have taken a nightmarish turn.

On Monday, she told the horror night she said she had lived, saying that she was assaulted repeatedly and had the impression of being “imprisoned” in the room.

She is currently undergoing the second opposite of a series of five. Each accused has his legal team, who can question her and try to raise contradictions to question his version of the facts.

The hearing continues Thursday afternoon at the London courthouse.
