Some of the ten members of the France-Algeria Cultural Center recently gathered at the “La Retaire Speed” bar around President Bashar Kaddour.
Claude Ribière, honorary president and founder of the association, Chantal Bonello, treasurer, Marie-José Prunet, secretary, as well as Pascal-Paul Bernard and Alain Legrand, in charge of international relations for the department within the Communist Party, also participated in the meeting.
Several events in perspective
After having mentioned the past activities, in particular the sending of a letter to the mayor of Toul in order to rebel against the erection of a statue in tribute to General Bigeard, the members of the cultural center revealed the events to come: a rally followed by a meal to celebrate the Algerian independence of 1962 on July 5 and the commemoration of October 17, 1961.
-On this occasion, a historian should hold a conference on the ins and outs of this deadly repression by the French police, during a peaceful demonstration of Algerians in Paris.
The members also mentioned the idea of inviting the historian Hajer Ben Boubaker to talk about her book Barbès Bluesa popular history of Maghreb immigration. On November 1, marking the start of the uprising of the Algerian nationalists in 1954, a film on the history of Algeria will be screened.
Finally, the president does not lose sight of the organization of a trip to Algeria, as soon as the conditions allow.
