“Significant strikes”: Israel Riposte in Yemen after missile shooting at Ben Gurion airport
Arab media reported important strikes on Monday evening attributed to Israel in the Hodeida region in Yemen, targeting in particular the port which had already been struck in the past. According to Saudi sources, more than 30 Israeli planes are participating in this operation.
These strikes intervene in the aftermath of the explosion of a missile pulled by the Houthi rebels at Ben-Gurion airport in Israel, which led to a major disruption of international air traffic to Tel Aviv. A few minutes before these Israeli strikes, American bombing had been reported to Sanaa, as part of the military operations led by Washington against the Houthis.
Until now, Israel had refrained to respond directly to Houthis despite more than 25 missile and drone launches against its territory in recent weeks, leaving the United States mainly to carry out strikes in Yemen. This response therefore marks a turning point in the Israeli strategy in the face of the attacks of the Yemeni rebels supported by Iran, potentially expanding the conflict to a new front in the region.
