Chancellor Friedrich Merz has assured determination in solving the problems in Germany after his election. “We are a coalition from the middle of the political spectrum of our country and I am very confident that we will be able to solve the problems of our country on our own power, from this house,” said the CDU politician when taking over the office in the Chancellery.
“What a day!” Merz also stated with reference to “surprises”, including his first choice in the second ballot. He expressly thanked his predecessor Olaf Scholz for his work in a difficult time. “You kept Germany on course during this time,” he said to Scholz. “In the end, you made the right decisions and also took over with other major challenges that you can handle at the beginning of your term, at the very beginning, partly – if I only think of the Corona crisis – you made the right decisions.”
