winner of the time trial of the Romandie Tour on Sunday to close his first resumption cycle after his serious December injury, Remco Evenepoel says he is satisfied and in time for the Tour de France, the main objective of his season.
Ten days of racing, two victories, five other top 10. For his return to competition after his serious fall in December, Remco Evenepoel could hardly dream better. The Belgian runner, winner of La Flèche Brabançonne for his return to competition on April 18, then the time trial of the Tour de Romandie this Sunday to close his first resumption cycle, took stock after the arrival in Geneva, and said he was satisfied. “I am happy with this victory. We were lucky with the weather because we did not have the rain which was initially announced. The first four kilometers of the race were quite technical, then everything went without problem until the finish line. I am delighted with my performance, and especially the sensations that I had in my shoulder, in the turns and in the straight lines. (…) I can look at these last two weeks with satisfaction. I have won two victories since my return to competition and I found the pace. Everything did not take place as I wanted and hoped in certain races, but it is normal after so much time without bicycle. I will now recover a little and continue to prepare for the summer. »»
Evenepoel adds the Belgian championships to its program
In summer, it will of course be the Tour de France, where he hopes to reach his peak in form to compete with Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard (who has no longer run since mid-March and his fall in Paris-Nice). We will not see Remco Evenepoel in competition for a month, but he will return on June 8 to take part in the Critérium du Dauphiné, which should give a good indication of his physical condition. The double Olympic champion also said on Sunday that he would take part in the Belgian time trial and online race championships on June 27 and 28. Will he wear the red-yellow-black jersey at the big start of Lille on July 5?
