Fire of a building in Saint-Denis: a victim and relocated families. The details of Jean-Marc Collienne
Yesterday, a fire broke out around 10:30 am in one of the 36 housing units of this residence, located rue Décan, in Saint-Denis. When they arrived, the firefighters took care of a first evacuated victim, but died following smoke inhalation. The firefighters rescued 23 victims, 18 of them were transported to the North CHU and are still hospitalized there. One of the victims is still in serious condition.
This Monday, the mayor of Saint-Denis, Ericka Bareigts, went there to exchange with the inhabitants. As of yesterday, with the Communal Center for Social Action (CCAS), the town hall had taken the necessary steps to relocate families.
Six families are relocated. Three families, eight people, are taken care of in a hotel in the nearby chief town. Three other families found refuge with their loved ones.
From 3th floor, where the fire started, seals have been placed as a security measure and for the needs of the survey. Many residents are therefore still waiting to be able to regain their apartment. Some are worried about the state in which they will find the premises. The mayor of Saint-Denis, Ericka Bareigts, hopes for a rapid authorization from the SDIS and the judicial authorities, so that the inhabitants can quickly access their accommodation.
The fire would have started from an apartment on the third floor, but the origin of the fire remains undetermined at the moment. According to witnesses, a candle is behind the fire.
An investigation is open for manslaughter following this fire of accidental origin. The fire was turned off at the end of the morning yesterday, thanks to the intervention of around fifty firefighters. The police, the SMUR and the CHU staff were also mobilized.
