Yesterday, a fire broke out around 10:30 am in one of the 36 housing units of this residence, located rue Décan, in Saint-Denis. When they arrived, the firefighters took care of a evacuated victim, but following smoke inhalation. The firefighters rescued 23 victims, 18 of them were transported to the North CHU and are still hospitalized there. One of the victims is still in serious condition.

Some are worried about the state in which they will find the premises. The mayor of Saint-Denis, Ericka Bareigts, hopes for a rapid authorization from the SDIS and the judicial authorities, so that the inhabitants can quickly access their accommodation.

The fire would have started from an apartment on the third floor, but the origin of the fire remains undetermined at the moment. According to witnesses, a candle is behind the fire.

An investigation is for manslaughter following this fire of accidental origin. The fire was turned off at the end of the morning yesterday, thanks to the intervention of around fifty firefighters. The police, the SMUR and the CHU staff were also mobilized.
