What if a spiritual retirement became your greatest personal crash test? It is the proposal for “Research Lily desperately” a book by Carène Ponte (river Éditions et Lizzie).
Lily, 40, marketing director on the verge of professional implosion, needs a lot of air. And if possible without incompetent colleagues freshly landed or endless zoom meetings.
In search of zenitude, she succumbs to the latest trend seen on Instagram: the famous spiritual retreat. Direction Val-Flore-les-Bains, a wild and peaceful valley, where it rents a former dream sheepfold-the photo was sublime. Almost too much. Spoiler: it was indeed.
Networks addicts
Under her tunes as a feel-good comedy, Carène Ponte accurately paints a biting portrait of our dependence on social networks.
-Through Lily’s obsession for influencers and their “perfect” lifestyle, the author hands us a malicious mirror, but never moralizing. Because yes, behind hashtags and filters, there is often a much more … rustic reality. Listen to an extract.
Freshness in the voice
The interpretation of Olivia Nicosia is to be greeted: it breathes a real breath of freshness into this comedy. We can easily perceive his bursts of accomplice laughter, his amused sighs or his interior questions, in perfect harmony with the playful tone of the novel. She fully saw Lily’s emotions, making the audio experience particularly alive and tasty.
In terms of characters, it is impossible not to mention the owner of the house, as warm as a herbal tea by the fire, or the dean grouch in the village, deliciously caricatured. All form an engaging gallery which gives a good thickness to the story.
The pennies pencil pen, fluid and removed, mixes well felt dialogues, burlesque scenes and moments of tenderness. We often smile, we sometimes move, and above all, we escape. A sparkling novel like a homemade lemonade, which invites you to slow down in a world saturated with stories.
Research Lily desperately is funny, touching and resolutely current, carried by a delightful interpreter. To listen to urgency if your mind claims a break … and if your phone is not too jealous. To buy this book Click here or click here.
Note: some could judge the duration of this somewhat short listening for an audible credit, but good news! The title is also available in streaming on Spotify, Nextory or Storytel – an excellent option to complete the month without exploding its quota of hours.
