QUÉBEC, the 6 out of 2025 / CNW/ – Asthma affects more than 260 million people worldwide and is responsible for more than 450,000 deaths each year. Most of these deaths could be avoided. On the occasion of World Asthma Day on May 6, 2025, the World Asthma Initiative (Gina) chose the theme ” Make the treatments inhaled accessible to all ». GINA highlights the need to guarantee asthmatic people access to inhaled drugs which are essential both for controlling the underlying disease and to treat crises.
In addition to access to inhaled medication, the Quebec Respiratory Health Education Network (RQESR) Recalls that people living with asthma (or any other chronic respiratory disease) should easily have access to educational and clinical services to support them towards the self-management of their disease.
“Educational and clinical services are provided by a team of health professionals specializing in respiratory health education, educators in respiratory health. Educators support people in learning knowledge and the development of skills necessary for optimal self-care of their chronic disease. The benefits of short, medium terms are incredible respiratory health education! These services are essential to the population. »Expresses Sara-Edith PenneyDirector General of RQESR.
The benefits of respiratory health education
The positive repercussions of an offer of educational and clinical services in respiratory diseases are numerous: decrease in emergency visits, decrease in hospitalizations and improvement in quality of life, to name only these. The RQESR offers on its website a section dedicated to people living with chronic respiratory disease. This is a good starting point to understand the importance of educational and clinical monitoring.
-World Asthma Day
World Asthma Day is a privileged moment to remember that asthma affects a very large number of people. In Quebec, it is estimated that around 10% of the population (children and adults) lives with asthma. Fortunately, asthma can and must be mastered. Educators are present everywhere in Quebec to equip people affected by this chronic disease to live an active life and without symptoms.
