In March, new contaminations were discovered at the Perrier factory in Vergèze, in Gard in the south of France. These are pathogenic bacteria of the intestine found in 75 cl bottles, says Franceinfo. The media also claims that Nestlé Waters, a parent company of Perrier, did not immediately warn the Health authorities. The bacteria were discovered on March 11, but the regional body was contacted until 10 days later.
Nestlé believes that these reports arise from “simple internal measures to manage the quality of water quality to drilling” and that no product concerned has been marketed. “All products put on the market are safe,” says the group.
“This new episode of contamination led to stopping a production line, and the blocking of 369 pallets, that is to say around 300,000 bottles. In addition, hundreds of thousands of other bottles of 50 centilitres are also blocked due to the presence of an excess of revivivable germs, possible indicators of bacteriological contamination, “said Franceinfo.

In April 2024, Perrier had already had to destroy 3 million bottles due to an episode of contamination by bacteria from fecal germs. The controversy continues in France concerning these pollution and the government’s degree of information in this case.
For the time being, even though Perrier water still has the name of “natural mineral water”, the group still benefits from a derogation allowing it to use filters – deemed insufficient by certain experts.
In the coming days, the prefect of Gard Jérôme Bonet is expected to rule on the Perrier case. According to public radio, the Regional Health Agency of Occitania advocates the cessation of all the boreholes of Vergèze, which would condemn the brand.
