The possible lifting of parliamentary immunity from two former ministers of the Macky Sall era, Ndèye Saly Diop and Moustapha Diop, creates swirl within the Alliance for the Republic (APR). Both are targeted by an indictment procedure with a view to their translation before the High Court of Justice, within the framework of alleged irregularities in the management of the Fund Force COVID-19, as noted by the Court of Auditors.
Former Minister of the Family for one, former Minister of Industrial Development for the other, Ndèye Saly Diop and Moustapha Diop is now sitting in the National Assembly. Their parliamentary immunity should be lifted this Friday, thus opening the way to a possible legal proceedings.
But this perspective arouses a keen debate within the presidential party. According to the newspaper Les Échos, two very distinct currents emerge in aperitists. The first, made up of supporters of a hard line, considers that the APR should not mingle in this case. The latter recall that the two parliamentarians had moved away from Macky Sall and the party during the last polls, going so far as to support the candidacy of Amadou Ba, who, in turn, had distanced himself from them.
In contrast, other voices believe that the party must support the two deputies in principle, regardless of their past political choices. A third more moderate position suggests, according to the echoes, to leave it to Macky Sall to decide on the attitude to adopt, in a process of strategic coherence.
