Actors of the economic world of the Capitale-Nationale want the return of a Quebec minister in the next Carney government.
Gathered in a press briefing on Wednesday, the Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIQ), the Hôtelière association of the Quebec Region, Quebec International and the Port of Quebec, in particular, ask that the Capitale-Nationale has a strong voice to the Council of Ministers in Ottawa.
Three Liberals were elected to Quebec last week: Jean-Yves Duclos (Quebec-Center), Joël Lightbounde (Louis-Hébert) and Steeve Lavoie (Beauport-Limoilou). There CCIQ would like one of them to access the office of the new government.
Mark Carney excluded Jean-Yves Duclos from his transitional cabinet in mid-March, a gesture that has reduced the weight of the Quebec region in Ottawa according to Frédérik Boisvert, chief and president of the management of the CCIQ. We think it’s something problematic
he underlines. This dynamic really has to change.

For many governments […] We had major projects thanks to strong voices. Votes that were elected in the Quebec region which represented us in the Council of Ministers
adds M Boisvert.
He notes that no liberal was elected east of Quebec, given the defeat of the outgoing deputy of the Gaspésie and the Islands-de-la-Madeleine, Diane Lebouthillier.
As Capitale-Nationale, I would find it inconceivable to be represented by an elected official from Shawinigan or Montreal. It would be a complete misinterpretation.
According to him, a representation in Ottawa would make it possible to advance different projects such as that of the QSL container terminal in Beauport.
-He adds that an economic delegation of Quebec will be set up to make representations to the Liberal government. There CCIQ aims at fall to relaunch such a delegation.
Mark Carney will appoint his new Council of Ministers on May 12.
Financial support
The National Institute of Optics (INO), which supports around 1,000 jobs in the Quebec region, says it needs a strong voice in Ottawa to hope for funding sources in Ottawa.

The businessman also militates for the return of a strong voice to the Federal Council of Ministers.
This is where Canada started
The place of a Quebec Minister would also give special status to the Quebec national capital.

This is where Canada started in Quebec City. It is the national capital of the Quebec nation. It is a question of respect for a minister of the federal government who represents us in the office,
Alupa Clarke, managing director of the Quebec Region Association, for his part.
