The Charente prefecture sounds the alarm in the face of an upsurge in road accidents involving motorized two-wheelers. Since the start of the year, 14 of the 56 accidents identified in the department have concerned bikers, or 25 % of claims. A worrying figure that prompted the authorities to renew their calls for caution, especially with the return of spring and long weekends.
Three dead since January on Charente roads
According to Actu.fr, between January and May 2025, three bikers lost their lives on the roads of Charente. Dramas that recall, according to the authorities, the risks associated with the practice of two-wheelers, in particular after a period of inactivity. In this context, the police redoubled a vigilance, with targeted checks on the major highways of the department.
Saddle back internships offered for free
To accompany bikers in their resumption of driving, the gendarmes and the Charente police regularly organize background courses. These training courses, supervised by road safety professionals, allow participants to reconnect with technical gestures and reflexes essential to safe driving.
