King Mohammed VI sent a message of greeting to his holiness Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his inauguration at the head of the Catholic Church.
In this message full of solemnity, the sovereign expresses his “Warm congratulations” and forms the wish that this pontificate “Be beneficial to the Catholic people and the common good.”
King Mohammed VI underlines that Morocco and the Holy See maintain old relations, based on reciprocal esteem and convergent commitments in favor of peace and coexistence. “The kingdom, the land of fraternal coexistence of monotheistic religions, is relentlessly worked to promote the spirit of solidarity and harmony between peoples and civilizations”he recalls.
He evokes, in this regard, two significant moments: the visit of Pope John Paul II in Morocco in 1985, by invitation of King Hassan II, and that of Pope Francis in Rabat in March 2019. These meetings, he writes, are “An event with high symbolic value” attesting “From the shared will with the Holy See to build bridges of fraternity between men and to erect the interreligious dialogue in rampart against extremism and folds on oneself”.
The king concluded his message by reaffirming his “Constant provision” to make these privileged links last “In the same spirit of fraternity, friendship and understanding”and by formulating the wish “That they develop even more in favor of the dialogue between Muslims and Christians, on the basis of universal human values and precepts common to monotheistic religions.”
