In Agde, on the banks of the Hérault River, Château Laurens is preparing to welcome a new cultural meeting. From this Thursday 8 to this Sunday, May 11, 2025the emblematic building of Art Nouveau becomes the scene of a literary event as original as it is historic. For the first time, a comic strip retraces the life of Emmanuel Laurens, builder of the castle and romantic figure of the beginning of the 20th century. The public will be able to meet the authors of the work, attend dedications and rediscover this monument under a new look.
Emmanuel Laurens inherits an immense fortune only 24 years old. He could have led a quiet annuitant existence. He prefers the adventure of art. In a few years, it brought a unique castle out of the ground, an alliance of curved lines, mosaics, stained glass and distant influences. He projects his passions there: music, painting, travel and cultures elsewhere. His journey leads him from India to China, including Russia or Egypt. On each return, he enriches his home of memories and patterns brought back from the end of the world. His castle becomes a total work, a reflection of his vision of the world and his time.
A trio of authors for a destiny in pictures
The album, entitled Emmanuel Laurens: the castle of his dreams, is published by Aldicom editions. Specializing in historical stories, the house entrusted the scenario to Olivier Cabassut, passionate about the forgotten characters of the heritage. Antoine Saliège signs the drawings. Together, they compose a nuanced portrait of a man who is both eccentric, scholarly and deeply attached to beauty. The book, sold at a price of 19 euros, will be presented to the public every day, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. et from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m..
> The comic strip is also on sale at the shop of the Cap d’Agde Tourist Office, in bookstores as well as on the site www.aldacom.fr
