The Cavalia group, recognized for its equestrian shows, declares bankruptcy while it accumulates significant debts.

The different companies of the founder of Cavalia, Normand Latourelle, filed opinions in this sense at the end of April through the insolvency trustee Raymond Chabot.

These entities are illuminated productions, the Cavalia and PNL winter productions creation center, in addition to the parent company Cavalia.

According to documents submitted to the superior court and obtained by the Canadian press, the group’s debts towards its creditors total more than $ 28 million.

Among the main creditors are the Caisse Desjardins du Plateau-Mont-Royal, which claims $ 10.4 million, as well as investing Quebec with a sum of $ 4.4 million to be reimbursed.

The Montreal -based group also owes $ 3.5 million to the cultural business development company, as well as $ 1.8 million in Economic Development Canada.

Meetings of creditors are scheduled for May 12. These meetings aim in particular to explain to creditors the reasons explaining the insolvency of the different entities of the group.

The show dates back to 2003

In addition to equestrian shows, Cavalia had set up the project in 2019 in the house in Laval. It was a multimedia route comprising various structures and exploring different themes.

Experience ended in January 2024 due to the non-prolongation of the agreement allowing the company to operate on the site which is around Highway 15 and which to the City of Laval.

The latter had turned to the courts year to force Cavalia to release the land from her remaining facilities.

The Montreal Journalwho first reported the of bankruptcy on Monday shared a written declaration by Mr. Latourelle.

The broken promises of recent years have hurt us. […] This is why we live the present situation, which takes place against our will, with great sadnesssaid the founder and artistic director of Cavalia on a daily basis.

The company launched its first show in 2003, then a second in 2011, entitled Odysséo. Both were presented all over the world.
